UNIHEAT technologies on display at the Innovation Conference and Showcase (IC&S) in Houston, TX, October 2014

The Innovation Conference and Showcase (IC&S) is Houston’s premier conference and exhibition for early stage technologies organised by the Houston Technology Center.

UNIHEAT technologies went on display at the Innovation Conference and Showcase (IC&S) on the 8th October in Houston, Texas. The event was organised by the Houston Technology Center to inspire new ideas, discuss strategies for commercialization, and ultimately showcase success stories. IC&S featured a panel on venture capital funding in Houston, networking opportunities and an exhibition of 50 invited emerging companies showcasing their technology. Dr. Francesco Coletti, UNIHEAT’s Industry Engagement Manager, presented the UNIHEAT project and several of its closer to market technologies  at the exhibition and related networking events.

A panel discussion on the critical trends driving venture investment, lessons for entrepreneurs, and its impact on Houston included high calibre participant such as Barbara Burger, President, Chevron Technology Ventures, David Steakley, Chairman, Houston Angel Network, Tom Pickens, CEO and Chairman of the Board, Astrotech Corporation and Jeff Sheldon, General Partner/Managing Director, CitareTx Investment Partners I, LP/CitareTx Management, LLC.

The lively discussion provided interesting insights on the venture capital scene in Houston as well as several useful suggestions on how to take a technology to market.

The Exhibition

UNIHEAT technologies on display at the IC&S exhibition, the largest showcase of Gulf Coast emerging technologies, included a variety of energy efficiency methods for refining applications jointly developed by Imperial College London (UK) and Boreskov Institute of Catalysis in Novosibirsk (Russia). Particular interest was raised by the in-situ characterisation of oil blending, novel thermodynamic modelling of crude oils, the use of an experimental rig for precise fouling measurement at refinery conditions, applications of dynamic simulation models of preheat trains in refineries and a novel thermal approach for drag reduction in pipelines based on patented catalytic heating technology.
